Funk Club — Bale Thota

Funk Club is a bold, fruit-forward coffee from Bale Thota Estate in Aldur, Chikmagalur, produced by Kuldev Gowda. This lot combines Selection 9 and Hemavathi Arabica and is designed for those who enjoy expressive, experimental coffees with a pronounced fruit character. The coffee undergoes a Honey Anaerobic Co-Fermentation, where ripe coffee cherries are fermented in an oxygen-limited environment along with banana, guava and other fruits. The honey process brings sweetness and body, while the controlled anaerobic co-fermentation builds the distinctive tropical and berry character found in the cup. The cup opens with ripe mango, followed by the unmistakable sweetness of red banana. As it cools, mixed berries become more prominent, bringing a juicy, vibrant character, while sugarcane adds a clean sweetness and balance to the finish. This is a deliberately expressive coffee — juicy, tropical, berry-driven and sweet, with the fermentation playing an important role in shaping its character.
