We’ve made significant progress in exploring Fine Robustas, showcasing the quality of Robusta coffee produced in India. Indian Robusta is largely exported to Europe and Australia, while domestic supply is utilized mainly by instant coffee manufacturers and commercial roasters focusing on blends for espresso and South Indian filter coffee. Advances in farming, fermentation, and post-harvest processing have generated excitement in the Robusta segment. Papakuchi Coffee from Coorg, India, is the result of three generations of expertise in producing quality coffee. Blending tradition and technology, Papakuchi has exported specialty micro-lots since 2013 to Europe, East Asia, and Australia, gaining a reputation for quality, sustainability, fair trade, and direct roaster-farmer relationships. Venkids Valley Estate, a third-generation plantation founded by the late M.N. Cariappa’s father, produces some of India’s best coffee by combining traditional growing techniques with modern technology. Now managed by Cariappa’s son, Pavan Nanjappa, alongside his wife Shilpa, the estate continues to harvest both Arabica and Robusta under the Papakuchi brand.
