Our first coffee from Nepal takes us to Gulmi, the birthplace of the country’s coffee story. Coffee was first planted here in 1938, when Hira Giri brought seeds from Myanmar to Aapchaur. What began as a curiosity gradually developed into an industry, with coffee finding a natural home across Nepal’s mid-hills. Today, Arabica grows across these terraced Himalayan landscapes, where elevation, shade and a predominantly smallholder-led approach make Nepal a particularly interesting origin to watch. For our first exploration, we’ve kept things classic: Bourbon, Typica and Caturra, traditionally washed and roasted light-medium for filter. The cup brings red apple, mandarin and honeyed sweetness with bright malic acidity. Nepal may still be a small name on the global specialty map. Judging by this lot, there’s plenty more to discover.
