Currant Affairs is our vibrant, berry-forward showcase lot from Karadykan Estate in Chikmagalur, crafted in partnership with our long-standing producer partners at Sangameshwar Coffee Estates. Fermented with unrefined natural sugars, this coffee bursts with tangy berry sweetness and a smooth, nutty finish—an expressive cup that shines equally in espresso and manual brews. Our omni roast leans toward a balanced medium, unlocking layered sweetness and complexity while softening any sharp edges for a clean, easy-drinking experience. We’re proud to continue our collaboration with Sangameshwar, a producer that consistently pushes quality forward while championing community well-being. Their commitment spans from improved processing innovations to meaningful investments in worker housing, education, and sustainable initiatives like hydroelectric energy for pulping. Currant Affairs celebrates this shared vision—exceptional coffee rooted in people, progress, and experimentation. Karadykan is nestled in the Bababudan Giri range at an elevation of 1,200–1,400 MASL. Spread across 320 hectares and receiving nearly 100 inches of rainfall each year, the estate is encircled by three hills and nourished by a network of natural springs. Its landscape is alive with wildlife, with herds of Indian gaur and spotted deer frequently roaming the property. The farm cultivates a wide array of coffee varieties, including arabica selections such as Sln 9, Sln 795, HDT × Catuai, Chandragiri, and Catimor; canephora varieties like Peradeniya, C × R, and Sln 274; as well as liberica. At the heart of its wet mill stands a century-old 12-foot water wheel that continues to generate clean hydroelectric power for coffee pulping. Karadykan also invests deeply in the well-being of its community. An on-site 20-bed hospital and a day-care crèche support the 75 families who live and work on the farm, reinforcing its role as both an agricultural estate and a thriving habitat for people, wildlife, and coffee.
